About Lizzy

Lizzy discovered her love of drawing and colour by watching her Dad at his desk creating wonderful Architectural plans, he coloured all his work by hand using vibrant watercolour.

Born and raised in Sydney Australia, Lizzy has been influenced further by the colours of her country and the brilliance of everyday life in Sydney. As a child Lizzy spent much of her time in the bushland near her home, discovering the sights, smells and sounds that the bush holds.

She studied at the Royal Alexandria Hospital for Children and became a registered nurse.

Lizzy travelled extensively throughout Europe and Scandinavia absorbing the art, culture and the people.

In 1994, Lizzy launched her own business Altered Plates, she produces ceramic ware which includes, platters, plates, bowls, jugs and tiles all with her original, contemporary designs. The vibrant colour makes her work popular and has sold Australia-wide in retail stores and galleries.

In 2005, Lizzy made a decision to paint on canvas and paper. Being self-taught Lizzy says there are no rules or inhibitions, she can just tap into the child within and use the memories of seeing amusing sights and sounds throughout her life. People going about everyday life are a great source of inspiration. They all end up in her work somewhere. Lizzy says that sometimes the work just appears on the canvas as if put there by someone else, you look at the clock and realize you have been painting for hours.

Creating commissions for her clients is also very enjoyable. Capturing those special scenes of homes, family and friends and the special times in life all go to make treasured memories.

Lizzy has had many solo shows since 2006 along with many group shows, completed many commissions and entered many Sydney based competitions. Also, Lizzy has exhibited alongside other Naive artists from all over the world. Jerusalem in 2012 and Poland in 2018.

Lizzy’s work for Watoto Children’s Villages in Uganda continues and she hopes that work help raise money to support these special children can be a lifetime commitment.

Becoming a Children’s book illustrator for Blackfog Books/ Walker Books Australia has filled a lifelong dream. Lizzy has had the opportunity to illustrate books and hopes to illustrate many more.
